At Nell Laser Clinic in Toronto, permanently and affordably removing unwanted facial hair and body hair has never been gentler or more effective. Nell uses two FDA approved laser hair removal systems: the award-winning Nd: YAG Cool Glide (Neodymium Yttrium Aluminum Garnet) Laser; and second, the elos IPL Laser. The sensation felt during the procedure with either laser is like a “hot pinch” or “snapping feeling which lessens after each treatment.
The Nd: YAG Laser is effective on all skin colours and hair types, especially darker, coarser hair and darker or tanned skin. Elos technology, the second laser, combines popular Intense Pulsed light (IPL) with bi-polar frequency and is more effective on dark blonde, ash brown, finer hair on fairer skin. The IPL laser will also eliminate ingrown hairs which cause bumps and skin infections.
How many Laser treatments will I need?
Both the Nd: YAG laser and the elos IPL laser disable hundreds of hair follicles in the growth phase in mere seconds and impair hair growth within 5-7 treatments. Sometimes, however, up to 10 sessions are advised with annual maintenance for best results because the growth phase of hair occurs at different times. There are three distinct phases: growth; regression; and resting. It is in the growth phase that laser treatments work best. Since hair enters this phase at different times, additional treatments may be necessary to disable all the hair follicles in a given area.
What do I do before Laser treatment?
You are asked to shave the area(s) being treated one or two days before.
It is recommended to avoid intense UV exposure for 7 days before laser treatment.
What happens after treatment?
What seems like regrowth of hair may surface at the treated area 3-7 days after treatment. Actually, most of those hairs are not regrowing, but are being shed as a result of treatment. Between treatments it is permissible to shave, but you should not wax or pluck.
It is advised to avoid UV exposure for 3-4 days after treatment with either laser. Don’t forget to use sun block after treatments.
Who should have Laser Hair Removal?
Both women and men would benefit from laser hair removal. For women, areas often treated are: face, neck, bikini line (includes Brazilian and French Bikini), tummy line, arms and legs, buttocks, and nipples. For men, areas include: face, neck, back, abdomen, legs, shoulders, buttocks and chest.
What are the possible side effects?
Although there are few, the most common side effects are slight reddening and local swelling similar to a mild sunburn. These effects may last from half an hour to a day. Consult with our Skin Therapist for more information.
